:: 6th Iranian Joint Congress on Fuzzy and Intelligent Systems ::
The 6th Iranian joint congress on Fuzzy and Intelligent Systems (17th conference on Fuzzy Systems and 15th conference on Intelligent Systems) will take place under organization of Shahid Bahonar University of Kerman. This congress will aim to present the latest scientific and industrial researches on Fuzzy and Intelligent Systems.
It is hoped that the participation of researchers, professors, students and industrial professionals will contribute to the scientific and intellectual development of Fuzzy and Intelligent Systems research.

Tutorial: Copulas: modelling the stochastic structure of multidimensional random variables

Multidimensional random variables are characterized by joint distribution functions. These can be, due to Sklar’s theorem, decomposed into marginal (1-dimensional) distribution functions and a copula C, so that F_Z(x1,..,xn) = C(F_1(x1),..,F_n(xn)).
Recall three basic copulas: the product (modeling the independence of marginal random variables), M = min (modelling the comonotone dependence of marginal random variables) and, in 2-dimensional case, W given by W(u,v) = max{0,u+v-1} (modeling the countermonotone dependence of marginal random variables). We introduce the basics of copulas and present several particular classes and construction methods for copulas. In particular, Archimedean copulas of any dimension will be discussed. More, several rank-dependent parameters of random variables Z = (X1,X2) will be discussed, including Spearman’s rho, Kendall’s tau, Gini’s gamma, etc. Some possible applications, in particular in the domains of fuzzy logic and fuzzy set theory, will be sketched. Recall, for example, that associative copulas are just 1-Lipschitz triangular norms, which justifies their use in any fuzzy domain (e.g., fuzzy control), where a stability of the considered fuzzy intersection is necessary.
